November First Monday Lecture

On the eve of the midterm elections, the role of Christianity in U.S. politics is hotly contested. Both right-wing and progressive Christians frequently justify their political positions as representing the Gospels’ vision for society, without providing a clear, biblically-based standard. Calling upon his 35 years of biblical scholarship, in this lecture Obery Hendricks will explore the ethical foundations of the Hebrew Bible and the Gospels.  He will offer specific criteria for a compelling, biblically-rooted constellation of ethics, both as a standard of political analysis and policy formulation and a guide for building an American political system of actual justice and love.
